Eurocontrol, in collaboration with EASA and the Flight Safety Foundation, and after having presented it to ICAO, has recently published the first volume of the document “Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions”. The text was created with the aim of becoming a fundamental guide for all parties involved in runway excursions.
SENASA has actively participated in the preparation of the plan, providing technical assistance together with the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA). Diego García, an expert technician of the company, has actively participated as vice-chairman of the Airports working group, with several proposals, as well as in the Regulators and R+D group.
The document is structured in lists of recommendations, intended for airport operators, air navigation service providers, aircraft operators, manufacturers, regulators, ICAO and research and development, including guidance on the dates when they are expected to be implemented.
It works as the evolution of the EAPPRE plan (“European Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions”) and, after the publication of this first volume (“Recommendations”), a second text with guidance material and good practices that develop them will be published for their application by the different entities.
