Madrid, October 5th, 2022
SENASA has participated in the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), held in Montreal from September 27th to October 7th 2022, which was attended by more than 2500 representatives in person and another 2000 remotely.
The activity of the Spanish delegation, of which SENASA is part, has been very fruitful and active in this international summit, having held several meetings with different representatives of international aviation with the result of new cooperation agreements.
Among the agreements reached, SENASA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CLAC - Latin American Civil Aviation Commission - with the aim of promoting, developing and strengthening mutual collaboration in the field of international technical cooperation in civil aviation, particularly in the training of human resources, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. This agreement represents a new commitment to specialised training as a key element of aviation safety in the areas of safety and security, air navigation, airports, environment and regulatory development.
During this international summit, Spain was re-elected as part of ICAO Council, the organisation's governing body, for the next three years, from where we will continue to work to promote the decarbonisation and sustainability of the aviation sector, as well as safety and operational efficiency. This re-election confirms the influence of the Spanish aviation sector in the world, the work of our Spanish technicians in the organisation and their contribution to the international aviation community.
Among the challenges addressed at this 41st ICAO Assembly, the impact of aviation on climate change was at the centre of the debate, urging the international aviation sector to position itself at the forefront of the fight against climate change and to adopt measures to achieve the goal of net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Among these measures, the use of sustainable fuels and the implementation of emissions offsetting programmes such as the CORSIA scheme were highlighted.
