NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING (NDT)

 

The continued airworthiness and the maintenance of aircrafts with EASA approval, is conducted by organizations that must comply with Annex I - Part M and Annex II - Part 145 of the Commission Regulation (EC) 2042/2003 of 20 November 2003 and subsequent amendments.

These Regulations deal with the continuing airworthiness of aircraft and aeronautical products, parts and appliances, and on the approval of organizations and personnel involved in these tasks.

One of the specialized tasks that may be performed is Non Destructive Testing (NDT). Regulation (EC) 2042/2003, states that if NDT are carried out in these organizations, in addition to complying with this Regulation, it is necessary to comply also with the UNE-EN 4179 - "Aerospace - Qualification and approval of personnel for NDT ".

Knowledge of these Regulations is therefore essential for different NDT professionals involved in these organizations and in Part 21 organizations that apply UNE-EN 4179.

Course objective:

  • To introduce to the aircraft and components maintenance professionals, knowledge of the NDT requirements of the regulations applicable to Part 145, M and 21 Organizations. Therefore, this course does not include practical training for performing NDT.
  • To present the various types of Non-Destructive Testing.
  • To prepare students for the writing and review of NDT manuals.
  • To provide knowledge to carry out audits in the companies involved in NDT and their manuals.

  • Auditors responsible for monitoring the compliance with the requirements of applicable standards in NDT, from:
  • Aviation Authorities.
  • Companies that work for Aviation Authorities (e.g. SENASA).
  • Managers, Maintenance Managers, Quality Managers and other staff involved in NDT, from:
    • Part 145 Organizations that have among their capabilities NDT.
    • Part 145 Organizations that contract NDT.
    • Part 145 Organizations that subcontract NDT.
    • Part 145 Organizations applying for a new capability in NDT.
    • CAMO's that contract Organizations approved to perform NDT.
    • Organizations Part 21 that apply UNE-EN 4179 Regulation.
    • Any professional or future professional interested in acquiring knowledge about the applicable NDT requirements in Part 145, M and 21 Organizations.
